ScienceinSport.com UCI Track Team

The scienceinsport.com UCI Track Team have had a very good World Cup series finishing 7th overall in the Team Standings after the 4 events of Sydney, Moscow, LA and Manchester.

The scienceinsport.com UCI track team consists of the following World Class riders

Jason Queally, Jamie Staff, Ross Edgar, Matthew Crampton, Jason Kenny, Victoria Pendleton, Wendy Houvenaghel, Rebecca Romero

UCI Track World Cup, Manchester

Science in Sport.com track riders had some outstanding performances at the Manchester round of the UCI World Cup. There is no doubt that the rider of the weekend title goes to Victoria Pendleton who claimed Gold in all three events that she competed in - the Sprint, 500m TT and the Keirin. Victoria set a new British record of 34.866 in the 500m TT and was only just outside the World record. Wendy Houvenaghel was in awesome pusuiting form as she lowered Yvonne McGregors National record that has stood for 10 years to 3:33.778 in claiming the gold medal and World Cup series title. Another Science in Sport rider Rebecca Romero riding in GB colours lowered her PB to 3:36.684 in claiming the silver medal in what was only her third ever competitive individual pursuit.

It was a weekend of bad luck all round for the guys though with Jamie Staff crashing out heavily on the final bend in the Keirin final when he looked certain to claim a podium place. Even worse was to come in the Team Sprint when the Scienceinsport.com trio of Jamie Staff, Jason Kenny and Matthew Crampton were controversially disqualified for two false starts in what could have been an eagerly awaited battle against the GB Team.

The riders will now continue with their preperations for the Track World Championships in Palma de Mallorca in March when they will swap the black and white colours of Science in Sport to ride in the red, white and blue of Great Britain.
